Semi trucks are a major part of our economy and there are many different types of trailers that move cargo from one place to another. Our team at GATR Truck Center strives to be a resource for all of your trucking needs! Continue reading to learn more about the different types of trailers.

Dry Van Trailers

Potentially the most common trailer you see is the dry van trailer. These are also called enclosed or box trailers and are used to transport dry goods. Cargo might include non-perishable foods, household items, raw materials for building, and boxes being delivered to their final destination.

Refrigerated Trailers

For goods that need to stay cool during transport, refrigerated trailers are used. Dairy, meat, houseplants, produce, and medications are a few examples of the cargo you might find in these types of trailers. Refrigerated trailers utilize a special powering unit and a cooling system to keep goods cold or frozen on the road.

Lowboy Trailers

Lowboy trailers can be used for oversized loads and for moving very large equipment or items. They are designed with a low deck to compensate for taller loads! They also have a slightly increased weight capacity compared to other types of semi truck trailers.

Livestock Trailers

Some semi trucks carry livestock from farm to farm or from farm to processing plant. These trailers are specifically designed to allow airflow for the animals and can have one or two levels.

There are many other types of semi truck trailers on the road, but these are some of the most common models you’ll see!
